Things were looking up for Brandi Gilliam. She’d just started a decent job in D.C. and felt ready to put the past behind her. But a voice from the past—that of her dead brother Johnny, begins to call her back to a life she’d spent years trying to forget. As the obsession takes hold of Brandi, she begins digging into his death, and upon discovering there is no record of it, she has to let go of the future in order to return to her hometown, to the nightmares and abuse, to both face her guilt at abandoning her younger brother, and uncover the mystery of his death.
The truth of what happened to Johnny Gilliam becomes more difficult to discern, as the townsfolk and others describe a boy that Brandi realizes isn’t the brother she knew so well. Even those who aren’t trying to make her stop digging into his death seem to be hiding something. Johnny is leading her to the clues but in the midst of unraveling the truth, Brandi finds herself the target for an unknown killer, and even the friendliest faces begin to take on a more sinister mask.
